Shelly and Trey’s Whimsical Backyard Boho Wedding

by Amy Serrago

Shelly and Trey stuck close to home for their whimsical, boho-chic DIY wedding. They chose to get married on Trey’s family’s farm and said “I do” under the very same tree Trey’s parents did when they were married. Shelly and her new mother-in-law are both huge antique lovers and used several vintage pieces in the wedding decor, including the antique drop leaf table that formed their wedding altar. Shelly handmade the decorative quilting circles that hung from the tree above them and fashioned the accent “florals” out of coffee filters and eucalyptus. We just love this clever bride’s sense of style.

Shelly was stunning in her boho-chic gown by Leanne Marshall. Its vintage inspiration was perfect for the day’s theme and its pretty lace sleeves were something Shelly had always envisioned for her dream dress. She finished her look with floral hair accents and sparkling sandals. Her bridesmaids wore blush gowns in different styles and all of the ladies carried vibrant bouquets of multi colored florals and rich greenery. Trey looked sharp in his navy blue suit and brown tie and his groomsmen rocked a more casual, jacket-less look with dark green ties.

For the reception, the couple set up a tent on the opposite side of the property and decked it out with strung Edison lights and richly colored florals in antique vases. Shelly handmade a large floral centerpiece to hang above the dance floor out of a hula hoop and vibrant flowers. She says it was her favorite decorative touch of the day. Signage was made out of clear plexiglass with white writing and the bales of hay they arranged as seating around the outdoor fire pit were draped in antique quilts to add whimsy to the boho-chic styling. For dinner, Timber Pizza Co. from Washington DC brought their own ovens and served up four different types of brick oven pizza. They even boxed up what was left, so guests got an extra treat at the end of the night. Shelly says she’s glad they decided on one last minute splurge, The Cozy Caravan. “It was a cool old camper turned into a bar, complete with taps and a bartender. Our bartender did such an amazing job of keeping the guests happy and was so personable, we even got to serve some of our guests out of the caravan.” Sounds like so much fun, congratulations Shelly and Trey!
