Jennie and Lucas: DIY Deliciousness On A Budget

by Amy Serrago

Jennie and Lucas met online and shared their first date at Hungry Brew Hops in Newmarket, Ontario. Their wedding proves that with a bit of creativity you can have an absolutely fabulous wedding without breaking the bank. The day started with the ceremony, officiated by Jennie’s aunt, at a local greenhouse where the lush foliage and vibrantly colored plants provided gorgeous decor. A gazebo-like arbor served as their wedding altar and the grounds made just the right backdrop for portraits. Jennie was picture perfect in her flowing white halter gown with its black floral pattern, a dress she found and fell in love with at a shop in the mall! She handmade paper roses that, along with paper greenery, comprised her bridal bouquet. It was beautiful and it will forever be a keepsake from her wonderful wedding day. Lucas was handsome in his navy blue suit and rust colored tie and the two decided to forego a traditional wedding party to keep things simple and keep costs down.

After the “I dos” were said, Jennie, Lucas and their guests headed back to Hungry Brew Hops, where their relationship started, for a fun reception filled with DIY details and delicious beer! Paper roses, like the ones from Jennie’s bouquet, were placed in cream colored Ball jars to create the centerpieces and custom signage gave guests the lay of the land. A buffet of appetizers lined one side of the reception space and there was a polaroid “guest book” complete with frame. Jennie and Lucas served a sit down dinner and had brown paper bags filled with cookies that guests take away. The blue and white color scheme popped against the long wooden tables and the Edison lights that were strung from the ceiling gave the space an industrial-chic feel. Congratulations Jennie and Lucas!
