Katie and David’s Villa La Joya Destination Wedding

About eight years ago, Katie went to see a hit broadway show called “In the Heights” with her family. From the moment the actor playing “Sonny” stepped on the stage Katie was smitten. During intermission she told her dad she had a crush on the charming young performer. Katie’s dad asked her if she wanted to go backstage and get “that guy’s” autograph and she, embarrassed, (as daughters sometimes are by their dads) said no. Lucky for her, Dad wouldn’t take no for an answer and so, they waited outside the stage door to meet her crush, who turned out to be David! They became friends and she continued to follow his career until they met again, this time on the west coast. That’s when they started dating. For the proposal, David took Katie back to the same spot where they’d first met, outside that theater in New York and of course, she said yes and wedding planning was underway.

Katie and David invited their friends and family to Villa la Joya in Mexico’s Riviera Maya for a simply stunning destination wedding! They exchanged vows just steps from the ocean with a lush backdrop of greenery spotted with white roses serving as their wedding altar. Katie looked like a princess in her Zac Posen ballgown with its sweetheart neckline and sheer, off-the-shoulder sleeves. She topped off her look with a sparkling tiara and a long veil for added drama. Her bridesmaids were perfect in pink convertible gowns and all of the ladies carried amazingly lush bouquets that combined classic florals with tropical accents. David was dapper in a three-piece gray tux and his groomsmen were beachy in beige.

At the reception, Katie changed into a sleek, mermaid cut gown and a crown of flowers, bringing a boho-chic vibe to the celebration. Tables were set around the pool with white linens and gold chargers. Strung Edison lights hung high over the space and gold votives completed the decor. The couple’s baby pictures and photos of them together from throughout their courtship were displayed to add a personal touch and as Katie and David took the floor for their first dance, they were illuminated by a cool light show and the fireworks that lit up the night sky above them.
