Lydia and Alex had a “big fat Ukrainian wedding ceremony”, as they put it. There were two priests, an organist and a full choir at their traditional church nuptials. Highlights included crowning the bride and groom with olive branch crowns to symbolize them becoming the king and queen of their new family. Which they must promise to rule with “peace and integrity”. Lydia and Alex admit that some things didn’t go exactly as planned. Still, they loved being together, exchanging vows and secret glances, all the while wondering if their guests noticed any of the glitches. But really, all eyes were on the happy couple.
Lydia was stunning in her trumpet cut gown with its wide straps and sweetheart neckline. She finished her look with Swarovski teardrop earrings and a fingertip veil. Her bouquet was a cheerful mix of yellow and white florals with greenery accents. Alex was dapper in his classic black tux and white tie and the wedding party looked perfect in tuxes and unmatched gowns in shades of gray.
At the reception, yellow and white florals graced the centerpieces while garlands of greenery and lemons completed the tablescapes. In Ukrainian culture yellow is the color of hope and joy, it also happens to be Lydia’s favorite color. Traditions were honored with special dances and in lieu of a cake, the newlyweds displayed a traditional Ukrainian bread called a korovai. Instead of cutting it, the couple takes simultaneous bites and whoever takes the biggest is said to “wield the power” in the relationship. After dinner, the dance floor came alive and an artist was there to capture it all on canvas in real time. Congratulations Lydia and Alex!
