Kate and Josh’s Nautical Nantucket Wedding

by Amy Serrago

Josh is a Nantucket native. Kate spends her summers there. The two met through mutual friends about 20 years ago. However, life took them in different directions and so, they didn’t reconnect until five years back. That’s when they bumped into each other at a popular spot on the island, The Gazebo at Harbor Square. The rest, as they say, is history!

After a romantic proposal at Sugarbush Mountain in Vermont, Kate and Josh set out to plan the perfect Nantucket wedding. Starting with a beautiful outdoor ceremony during which their adorable fur baby served as “dogmaid”. They also included a sand unity ritual, combining sand from their hometowns into one vessel. But above all, they were surrounded by love.

Kate was radiant in her classic A-line gown. Its silk embellishments were reminiscent of the wedding’s “sailor’s valentine” theme. And her bridesmaids wore navy blue chiffon. Each lady chose her own style, but they all carried sweet bouquets in the day’s navy and orange color scheme. Because that color scheme was born of Josh’s desire to wear “Nantucket reds” on his wedding day, he had to pair them with the perfect navy blue blazer! Meanwhile, his groomsmen followed suit and they all wore fun, nautical themed socks.

The reception took place at the Nantucket whaling museum. And the decor featured sailor’s valentine table numbers that were handmade by Kate’s mom! Navy and white striped tablecloths and orange napkins enhanced the whaling museum’s nautical artifacts. And at the same time, floral centerpieces featured local flowers! Kate says she loved the personalized pillows in the “dessert lounge”. And most importantly, the band was “amazing”! Her advice to engaged couples is simple. In short, “enjoy your day”. We couldn’t agree more. Congratulations Kate and Josh!
