Lovingly Beautiful Islamic Wedding During the Pandemic
Message from the Happy Couple
On behalf of Ismail, myself and both of our families, I would like to thank all of you for the sea of beautiful prayers and well-wishes for our marriage.
In the 1980s, Gabriel García Márquez wrote a story, set at the turn of the 20th century, about the power of enduring love in the time of cholera. Though the era and circumstances may have been different, the very human elements of fear and uncertainty about the future seem very familiar to us today.
For Ismail and me, the past few months have felt like something straight from a Marquez novel – only, had Marquez been writing today, the novel might have been titled “Love in the Time of Corona”.
Over the past few months, Ismail and I have seen many of our friends enter into a marriage union. From intimate home weddings to “virtual” wedding parties, we have been delighted by the creativity of those who made love triumph despite seemingly impossible circumstances.
And that, to us, is the key for our “tomorrow” – as the world, once again, grapples with uncertainty and a lack of clarity about the future, we can be sure that human resilience and our capacity to love, to support, to bind together, to start and build families will not wane.
The hundreds of comments, messages and phone calls that we have received from family and friends from all over the globe and all different backgrounds and walks of life have meant the world to us. If our marriage is only half as beautiful as all of your prayers and well-wishes have been, we can say that we will have been blessed to live an exceptional life together.
Thank you for reminding us, once again, that there is no greater power than the power of love, community and human solidarity. ❤
