In the 1930s, Sweeney Barn was a place for milking cows owned by the Birkett family. However, in 2018, the barn was bought by Noel and Alannah Sweeney and transformed into an event center with rustic elegance. During the renovation process, it was crucial to the Sweeneys that they utilize as much of the original materials as possible while simultaneously modernizing the architecture. The barn holds historical importance to the area, so its preservation was as important as bringing in modern touches.
Andrea Van Wambeke, General Manager at Sweeney Barn, said, “Renovated in 2018, Sweeney Barn has state-of-the-art amenities that will ensure every guest is comfortable on their wedding day.”

Location, Location, Location
One of the benefits of the venue is that while the barn itself is rustic, it is located in the heart of Prince William County. Van Wambeke says. “Because we are not way out in the countryside, we have hotels within 10 minutes, late night bars and restaurants where guests can continue to party, and ridesharing that will take guests home safely after the event.”
Inclement weather is not an issue for couples hosting their big day at Sweeney Barn. The venue has two levels available in case of last-minute changes.
Van Wambeke adds, “We also only host one event per day, so the client has access to both levels of the venue and the surrounding property.”

Rustic Elegance Meets Modern Sophistication
Sweeney Barn has three available locations both inside and outside the facility, each of which can host a different portion of the wedding adding variety within the same venue. The lower hall is where clients have the option to host their ceremony. The gothic-arched roof and large chandeliers of the upper floor of the building create a unique and elegant atmosphere ideal for hosting a memorable reception.
Each space is incredibly customizable.
“Our reception hall is a vast, open space, so couples can create the layout of their dreams,” she said. “While we do offer a selection of lanterns and decor, we love when clients use our preferred list of partners to decorate with flowers, vintage furniture, and other beautiful accent pieces.”
COVID-19 has not stopped the venue from thriving. So far this year, Sweeney Barn has hosted 51 events, with another 77 scheduled through the end of the year, while paying vigilant attention to their guests’ health and safety.
“We always update our clients with any news that may affect their event, though we do not anticipate any further closures this year,” said Van Wambeke.

Making Dreams Come True
From weddings to networking events to mitzvahs, Sweeney Barn caters to everyone.
“We care deeply about each and every one of our clients, and we can’t wait to be part of their unique event,” Van Wambeke continues. “We’re in the business of making dreams come true. The five-star reviews on Google, WeddingWire and The Knot say it all!”
