Proposal story:

Nathan did such a good job with the proposal. I had an idea it was coming, but no clue on the actual day! In March, he had asked me a few weeks before about going up to Estes Park on a Saturday and I was so excited! Estes Park has been kind of a special place for us. We went up there right after we started dating in the fall and walked around the shops, did a whiskey tasting at a local distillery, got ice cream, and had a really great day! There is even this little Christmas shop I love! Anyone who knows me, knows I LOVE Christmas! We went in there and found little ornaments of our dogs and had their names written on them.

So every time we go back, I get a new ornament. We then went back a couple more times and have always loved it. So I was excited we were going back! That morning, he barely spoke to me in the truck headed up there and seemed very anxious to get there. Once we parked at the visitor’s center, Nathan jumped out of the truck and told me he needed to run inside to use the restroom. I tried to follow, but couldn’t catch up to him! Once we got inside, I ran into his sister, Camille, and her friend with a camera. I was really surprised to see her and looking back that should have been my clue, but she told me they were up there that morning taking sunrise photos for their college graduation. That made sense, so when Nathan came out I asked if they would go eat lunch with us. They said yes, and we started walking. We walked through a tunnel under the road. The other side opens up to a beautiful little creek that was covered in snow. As we came out the tunnel, Nate mentioned something to the effect of “hey hold on, there’s something in my boot. I need to get it out.” I wasn’t really paying attention and was looking at the cute little kid’s artwork on the walls of the tunnel.

Nathan said my name and I turned around to find him down on one knee holding the most beautiful ring I had ever seen! I honestly wish I could tell you what he said, but I blacked out in that moment. I was completely shocked! Camille and her friend were over to the side taking photos for us, which was such a thoughtful touch. I will cherish those photos forever. After I said yes, we called all of our family and friends and shared the news! We then went and ate lunch and Nathan said he had another surprise for me! He said we were going to go to my favorite Christmas shop and get an ornament personalized to mark our engagement! That was so sweet and I started crying all over again. After hat, he had another surprise. We were going to go to the Sweetheart Winery in Loveland, CO and meet some friends of ours for a drink to celebrate.

I was so excited and we headed down the mountain. Once we got there and walked in, the first thing I saw was both sets of our parents sitting at a beautifully decorated table in the barrel room with roses, champagne, a charcuterie board, bridal magazines… it was stunning. I was so shocked and surprised to see my parents had flown up from Texas and it was the second best moment of the day! We all hugged, cried, and talked there for a bit before my final surprise. Nathan had made reservations at my favorite restaurant, The Melting Pot, for all of us that night in old town Fort Collins! He really outdid himself!! I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day!
