Julia and Senju’s Fusion Destination Wedding in the Desert

Julia and Senju met while working in the Peace Corp, so a destination wedding was the perfect choice for these two adventurous souls. Julia’s sister lives in Tucson but the remainder of her family lives in the midwest, while Senju’s family flew in from New York. The couple reside in Washington DC but after spending time in Tucson visiting family, they decided the desert was the perfect backdrop for their nuptials.

Julia and Senju’s had a fusion wedding that honored both the bride’s Mennonite upbringing and the groom’s Indian and Orthodox roots. They opened and concluded the traditional Sikh Orthodox ceremony with Mennonite hymns sung in four part harmony by the bride’s family. The groom wore a custom suit and the bride wore a Maggie Sottero gown. Their decor featured pops of peach and sage green with desert details. Florals by Bloom Maven were brilliantly cascading in custom alter arrangements into potted desert succulents. After the ceremony everyone headed to downtown Tucson’s historic Barrio Viejo neighborhood while the bride a groom changed into custom Saris, and then did a few more photos while their guests enjoyed cocktail hour at their reception venue, The Coronet. The rumor in Tucson is that this restaurant resides in a building that was at one time a brothel. At over 150 years old, I’m sure there would be a lot to say if the walls could talk. The couple wanted live country music from The Lucky Devil’s Band to to lean into the old West ambiance of The Coronet, which also offered a diverse range of catering options unique to the desert. Everyone danced away the evening in the warm summer air under a blanket of stars. Julia and Senju’s day was one of a kind and brought together in such a rich tapestry of tradition, color, excitement, and romance.
