Abby and Connor currently live in Maine. Before moving here, they spent some time traveling and living across different states to pursue Connor’s dream of playing professional hockey. Connor now plays and is the captain for the Maine Mariners hockey team. Abby is the oldest daughter of an 8th generation family-owned and operated company, Hancock Lumber, which was established in Maine in 1848.

Abby and Connor met through a mutual friend, although their paths had crossed multiple times before they officially met. They were introduced when they went to Martha’s Vineyard for a long weekend with friends, Connor was initially debating on not even making the trip down, but he did and they ended up hitting it off and the rest was history.

Sharing many similar dreams together they achieved their dream in the past year of getting a dog, buying a house, and traveling to new places. They have big dreams of someday starting a family, since they are both very family oriented individuals and they were excited about what that will look like. Their manifesting came to life when a few months before the wedding Abby found out she was pregnant. Another dream they are able to accomplish together. Connor’s career also allows them to continue to have dreams of traveling and eventually maybe even a few years in Europe to see even more parts of the world together.

On the proposal side of things Abby’s story goes as follows, “It was the biggest surprise of my life!! I always say I’m the hardest person to surprise – I’m always on to anyone when there’s any possibility of a surprise! I can honestly say I’ve only really been surprised a couple times in my life. This was really important to Connor – he wanted me to be truly surprised so he did it in Kansas City before we came home for the summer. He says he wanted to walk into our first house for the first time engaged rather than just dating. As far as how he did it – we woke up one morning and took our dog for a walk and to our favorite coffee shop. When we got home he suggested we get a bottle of champagne since it was Memorial Day Weekend and we were away from friends/family so we could celebrate together. He then suggested we make a big brunch and put on some music. As I sat down at the table he changed the song to one of our songs and walked over to me and did it in our apartment just the two of us! It was super special/intimate and I still am not over how surprised I was!”

The wedding took place at the Bar Harbor club which notably captured their dream of a classic and elegant coastal Maine inspired wedding. The day was truly special. Although the ceremony was short, they incorporated important family backgrounds into it. It included readings from 1 Corinthians 13, Versus 1 – 13 by Mr. Richard Weathers and an Irish prayer by Auntie/Godmother Jane Cassidy. The couple’s favorite part of the day was when they got some alone time before photos and the craziness began. They made their way to the balcony that overlooked the event space and where their ceremony had just taken place. They could look out and see all their family and friends below all in one place. This was their true “pinch me” moment.

The details, including the tablescapes, band, food, and florals, did not disappoint. One detail that really stood out from the rest was the seating chart. To incorporate hockey into the wedding, an important part of their relationship, the seating chart consisted of a wall of hockey pucks with the guest names on them and a headlining phrase that stated, “find your pucking seat.” This added some lightheartedness to this very classy day. They ended the night with a sparkler sendoff which was truly the icing on the cake for their special day.
