Katlyn and Blake’s Boho Chic Family Home Wedding

From the bride, about their wedding day:

A little behind the scenes because I think it’s special. The people that built the property we live on, owned an antique store across the road from our house years ago. (It has now since closed) When I lived in Duluth and would come home, my mom and I would come to the store. It was cute, and the lady was young enough to be my mom, so we got along great. One day while visiting the store, she asked me questions to get to know me a little more. I shared that I am a photographer, to which she said, ” My son and his fiance are getting married and looking for a photographer. What’s your number? He is over at my house right now, sleeping on my couch.” Long story short. Her son’s wedding is the wedding I captured and met Blake at.”

Next door to our home is the house that Blakes’s mom and all of her siblings grew up in. Back in the day, their field was farming fields, and where our house is, was woods. My mother-in-law and her siblings would yell to their Mom and Dad and say they were going to the “Greenwoods,” which is the woods where our house sits.

Blake had been in a rental house and one day mentioned while we were sitting on the couch that his Grandma Judy (His moms’ mom) said to Blake that Patti & Craig were going to be selling their home. Blake said, “It’s a shot in the dark and probably won’t happen, but let’s go look at it.” While doing the walk through all I could think about was the memories Blake and I could make in this home. While we were walking around the back patio, I said to Blake “Maybe we could bless this ground and get married here.” to which Blake responded, “Woah! Pump the breaks!” As soon as we left, Blake said, “It seems like it’s too good to be true.” A couple of weeks later, they accepted our offer, and now The Greenwoods are ours. When we shared with the rest of Blake’s family, they were overjoyed.

When Blake proposed. We decided that there was no better place to get married than our property.

Being a Photographer, I feel like I can speak for all of us when I say you want your day to be perfect for pictures. The day was very cold! But the lighting was PERFECT. It was cloudy and drizzled for our whole ceremony/cocktail hour. But then something happened that day that shocked us all. The clouds parted, and the sun came out. We were able to get some great group shots. After a day like that, I was shocked that we even got one hell of a sunset!

I’m boho chic. But I also love antiquing. I wanted to incorporate all of that. So I used some things I have collected over the years.

Blake used wood that was from one of the flower beds to make our beautiful arbor. We placed it by our pear trees and decided to leave it there forever! I love that this was all in our backyard. When I look outside and see the arbor, no matter the season, I think of all of our guests that made our special day so special.

Our flower arrangements were wild and simple, and our wedding cake was simple as well. I wanted something for just Blake and me. We had cupcakes for everyone else, which were delicious the next day!

Our party favors were our Drake and Olive (our dogs) cups that said, “We do too!” They are reusable, so we still have nearly 50 or more leftovers! Every time I look at them, I am reminded of our special day.

Yes, we had two of our friends sing for our ceremony. My uncle sang a dance with my grandpa, Craig Campbell, who is a country singer, sang Blake and I’s first dance song, which we put on a projector for everyone to see. My cousin, who was an Elvis impersonator back in the day, sang “Suspicious Minds” for us. The man that married us, who is a great family friend of ours, put together the whole Fireworks show!
