Rustic, romantic, convenient and…right by stunning caverns? That’s what The Yellow Barn offers engaged couples, wedding parties and event planners. Located just off I-81 at 470 Caverns Road in Quicksburg, Virginia, The Yellow Barn brings brides, grooms and groups a range of services tailored for weddings and events, making it a sought-after venue in the DMV area.
“It truly is the perfect place for a destination wedding or event where people want to get away,” said Ashley Proctor, Director of Events & Marketing for Shenandoah Caverns, which owns The Yellow Barn. “I got married there myself, so I know how spectacular a wedding or special event can be at The Yellow Barn.”
Proctor’s journey from a tour guide at the caverns to managing the events makes her perfectly positioned to help create magical experiences for couples and parties. With experience in event management, Proctor is passionate about ensuring each couple enjoys a stress-free and memorable celebration, and she is onsite helping throughout weddings and events.

Services, amenities, location
A key selling point for The Yellow Barn is its spaciousness, according to Proctor. Accommodating up to 300 guests makes it one of the largest venues in the region. And its location offers a serene and fun setting.
“People like that this is not a busy area,” Proctor said. “It’s a nice getaway from city life when someone has their wedding here, plus touring the caverns gives the guests something to do while they are visiting.”
What sets The Yellow Barn apart from other rustic venues is not only its size but also its modern amenities, including climate control and upgraded restrooms — features not always found in traditional barn settings. The venue also boasts a diverse selection of fabrics for decorating purposes, some of which were repurposed from the American Celebration on Parade, where they adorned presidential props. The flexible layout of the barn allows couples the freedom to customize their event, from dancing areas to dining arrangements, said Proctor.
With an onsite chef available to cater to smaller gatherings, such as intimate weddings, rehearsals, and farewell brunches, The Yellow Barn ensures a personalized experience for its guests, said Proctor. Day-of-coordination services are provided, along with accommodations in an Airbnb that can hold up to 16 guests.

The Yellow Barn specializes in offering dinner settings for rental and creative services, including arch decorating and custom projects for couples, exemplified by a unique arch built for a wedding last year.
Proctor said couples also have the option to choose their own vendors. For added convenience, the venue provides a list of recommended vendors with whom they have previously worked, along with assistance in finding local services to meet their needs.
More than a barn: history and caverns
The Yellow Barn holds historical significance, having been established in 2007 by the third owner of Shenandoah Caverns who planned for it to serve as a farmers’ market and a showcase for a personal collection of antique carriages, cars, and wagons.
Since then, the venue has undergone significant transformation, evolving from a space filled with storefronts and local souvenirs to a focused event space for weddings and corporate functions. In 2021, a rebranding effort concentrated on making the barn exclusively available for such events, providing a more private and intimate atmosphere for couples.
Kathy Kelly, the owner of The Yellow Barn and Shenandoah Caverns, represents a legacy of family ownership dating back to the 1960s. As the daughter of Earl Hargrove, the third owner of the caverns, Kathy’s connection to the venue adds a personal touch, according to Proctor.

And for those who want a particularly unique wedding experience? Couples are also encouraged to capture memorable photos within the caverns, which provide a picturesque and distinctive backdrop for their special day. Or for intimate elopements, ceremonies can also be held in the caverns, which can accommodate up to 15 guests.
“People have weddings in the caverns occasionally for elopements,” Proctor said. “It really is ideal for couples seeking a smaller, more personal ceremony. And it’s a great destination wedding for people who want something unique.”
