When my client first reached out, he told me about an upcoming road trip through Utah to visit the Mighty Five with his partner – and quietly shared that he was planning to propose along the way. He wanted the moment to feel simple and deeply personal, definitely not styled or elaborate.
Just the two of them surrounded by the landscape they love. From the beginning, Green River Overlook stood out: its sweeping canyon, and the winding river below. It feels so expansive, and intimate all at once.
We plannedthe evening carefully – I scouted the overlook ahead of time and suggested we aim for golden hour, when the desert light softens and the canyon reveals its depth in the most beautiful way. There’s truly nothing like it.
On the day of the proposal, I kept my distance to let the moment unfold organically. I captured the walk to the edge, the pause as they took in the view, and then the shift – the surprise, the emotion, the instant she realized what was happening.
After she said yes, we stayed for a few more portraits while the light dipped lower and the sky warmed. Nothing overly posed – just laughter, happy tears, and the kind of closeness that follows a life-changing question.
