Sweet Wishes Patisserie Brings Pastry Artistry and Flavor to the 2026 Cake-Off

A wedding cake may be one of the most photographed desserts a couple will ever choose, but for the owner of Sweet Wishes Patisserie, looking beautiful is only half the job. She believes it should taste every bit as good as it looks.

Sweet Wishes Patisserie will bring that philosophy to the 2026 Brides & Weddings Cake-Off on Wednesday, September 9, at Sweeney Barn in Manassas, where wedding bakers and dessert professionals will showcase their creativity for judges and members of the local wedding industry.

This will be Sweet Wishes Patisserie’s first Brides & Weddings Cake-Off.

Where Pastry Technique Meets Personal Celebration

Sweet Wishes Patisserie grew from a passion for pastry, creativity, and creating desserts that become part of life’s most meaningful occasions. With a professional pastry background and experience in high-end hospitality, the owner wanted to build a business that combined refined pastry techniques with a more personal experience for each client.

That philosophy begins with ingredients. Sweet Wishes uses real butter, premium chocolate, fresh cream, fresh fruit, and carefully prepared fillings, with attention given to flavor and texture as well as appearance. “For me, a wedding cake is not simply another dessert,” she said. “It is part of the couple’s story and one of the details their guests will remember from the celebration.”

Designing a Cake That Belongs to the Couple

Creating a custom wedding cake begins with listening. Sweet Wishes asks couples about their wedding style, colors, flowers, venue, atmosphere, and personal tastes before developing a design. Some couples arrive with a clear vision. Others bring a handful of inspiration photos or simply an idea of how they want their wedding to feel.

Rather than copying an existing cake, Sweet Wishes uses those details to develop something that complements the celebration and feels personal to the couple. The same approach applies to flavor.

Couples can explore combinations ranging from traditional favorites to more distinctive pairings. Pistachio, berries, chocolate ganache, fruit confit, tiramisu-inspired flavors, and delicate cream fillings are among the flavors and textures Sweet Wishes enjoys incorporating into its creations. “The goal is always for the finished cake to feel like it belongs specifically to that couple and their celebration,” she said.

Taking on the Cake-Off

For Sweet Wishes Patisserie, participating in the 2026 Cake-Off is both a creative challenge and an opportunity to become more connected with the regional wedding community. “I decided to participate because I saw the Cake-Off as an opportunity to challenge myself creatively and introduce Sweet Wishes Patisserie to more professionals in the local wedding community,” she said.

She is particularly looking forward to meeting wedding planners, photographers, venues, and other wedding professionals and giving them an opportunity to experience her work firsthand. “As a small business owner, I think it is important to step outside the kitchen, meet other people in the industry, and continue growing both creatively and professionally,” she said.

Then there is the competition itself.

Developing a dessert involves much more than decorating the finished product. Sweet Wishes considers the flavors, textures, structure, and final presentation as parts of one complete experience. “I love the process of developing a dessert, from deciding on the flavors and textures to thinking about the final presentation,” she said. “I am looking forward to creating something memorable for the Cake-Off.”

Advice for Couples Choosing a Wedding Cake

For couples beginning their wedding cake search, Sweet Wishes recommends starting early and finding a baker whose style and approach feel right for them. Couples also do not need to arrive at their first consultation knowing exactly what they want.

Wedding colors, flowers, venue, guest count, favorite flavors, and the overall feeling of the celebration can all help a baker develop ideas and guide the couple toward a cake that works with the rest of their wedding.mAnd don’t choose with your eyes alone.

“I encourage couples to think beyond appearance,” she said. “Taste the cake, talk about the fillings and textures, and choose flavors that you actually love.” Following every current cake trend isn’t necessary either.

“Your wedding cake does not have to follow every trend,” she said. “The best choice is one that reflects you as a couple, tastes wonderful, and becomes another special part of the experience you are creating for your guests.”
