Sweeney Barn Welcomes the 2026 Brides & Weddings Cake-Off
Couples dreaming of a barn wedding may picture a long drive into the countryside. At Sweeney Barn, they can have the character and history of a barn setting while staying close to the hotels, transportation, and attractions of Manassas.
That combination is part of what makes Sweeney Barn a distinctive Northern Virginia wedding venue. This September, the historic venue will also serve as Host Sponsor of the 2026 Brides & Weddings Cake-Off, welcoming wedding professionals and participating bakers for an afternoon of networking, lunch, tastings, and friendly competition.
The 2026 Brides & Weddings Cake-Off takes place Wednesday, September 9, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The annual Women’s Wedding Network event brings the wedding industry together while giving participating bakers an opportunity to showcase their creativity and compete for Cake-Off honors.
A Historic Barn Without the Countryside Commute
Sweeney Barn offers couples something a little different from the traditional rural barn venue.
“Our venue is somewhat unique in that we are a barn venue that is not located in a rural or farm setting,” said Andrea of Sweeney Barn. The venue occupies a 1939 dairy barn, preserving the architecture and character couples often seek in a barn wedding while offering modern amenities and convenient access to Manassas.
“The couples that choose to have their weddings with us want the best of both worlds: beautiful, rustic architecture for their photos, but easy access to the hotels, transportation and attractions in nearby Manassas,” Andrea said.
That convenience can be particularly valuable for couples with guests traveling to Northern Virginia for their wedding. They can create the atmosphere of a barn celebration without asking guests to travel far into the countryside.
A Wedding Team Built Around Relationships
For Sweeney Barn, the building is only part of the wedding experience. Andrea points to the relationships the venue has developed with wedding professionals as another important benefit for its couples.
“They also love our partners,” she said. “We’ve spent years building great relationships with vendors who we trust to take care of our couples in the lead-up to wedding day and during the celebration.” Those relationships are especially fitting for a Women’s Wedding Network event, where building connections among wedding professionals has long been part of the mission.
Sweeney Barn’s own team is another part of that support system.
“We have an amazing team of eight women who care deeply about our venue, ensuring that our clients have a smooth and easy planning process as they start their wedding journey,” Andrea said.
A Longstanding Connection With Brides & Weddings
Sweeney Barn’s relationship with the Brides & Weddings community goes back to the venue’s earliest days. “When we first opened in 2019, the Brides & Weddings community was extremely helpful in providing feedback and advice about our venue and our packages,” Andrea said.
Those early connections introduced the venue team to wedding professionals throughout the area and helped build relationships within the local industry. “We met some truly wonderful professionals who were also local to the area, and supporting the local community is one of our top priorities,” she said.
Hosting the 2026 Cake-Off provides an opportunity to bring that community back to Sweeney Barn. “We’re excited to welcome Brides & Weddings back to our venue for another event, and to enjoy some incredible confections!” Andrea said.
Don’t Miss the Silo Staircase
For wedding professionals who haven’t toured Sweeney Barn and couples who haven’t yet considered it, Andrea has a simple message: a beautiful barn wedding doesn’t have to mean traveling hours away. “You don’t have to drive hours into the countryside for a stunning barn venue and beautiful photos,” she said. “We have all the history and architecture of the 1939 dairy barn, but with all the modern amenities you could ask for.”
One architectural feature deserves particular attention: the spiral staircase inside the silo. Couples can use the staircase to enter the reception hall, creating one of the venue’s signature moments. “It’s always worth it to hear guests gasp in amazement as they head upstairs for the reception,” Andrea said.
Sweeney Barn Hosts the 2026 Cake-Off
On September 9, it will be the bakers’ turn to create a few memorable entrances. Sweeney Barn will welcome participating bakeries and wedding professionals for the 2026 Brides & Weddings Cake-Off, presented by Brides & Weddings and Women’s Wedding Network.
Guests will have the opportunity to network with other wedding professionals, enjoy lunch, sample creations from the participating bakers, vote for Attendees’ Choice, and see who takes home this year’s Cake-Off awards. A percentage of event proceeds will benefit Give Back Prince William in support of the Influential Women Award scholarships.
We thank Sweeney Barn for serving as our 2026 Cake-Off Host Sponsor and for opening its doors to the wedding community.
