Planning a wedding can mean coordinating a venue, caterer, florist, photographer, entertainment, baker, planner, and other professionals, each with their own processes and ways of communicating. While planning her own wedding, Elizabeth Kohnen, founder of AmorumiQ, began wondering why all those people couldn’t have a single place to coordinate the same event.
Four years later, that question is becoming a platform.
Wedding professionals attending the 2026 Brides & Weddings Cake-Off on September 9 at Sweeney Barn in Manassas will have an opportunity to meet Kohnen and learn more about AmorumiQ, one of this year’s Cake-Off sponsors.
A Wedding Planning Experience Sparked the Idea
The idea for AmorumiQ began while Kohnen was planning her own wedding on a relatively short seven-month timeline. An organized, self-described “type-A” bride, Kohnen tried to piece together the planning process herself before hiring a partial planner about two and a half months before the wedding.
What stood out was how disconnected everything felt. Some of her vendors had worked together previously. Others had not. Different vendors also had different communication processes, leaving Kohnen responsible for ensuring information reached everyone who needed it. “It seemed so obvious to me: why isn’t there one simple, shared space where the vendors and the couple could actually coordinate on the same wedding together, instead of everyone working off on their own?” Kohnen said.
She began thinking about a wedding in business terms. “Each wedding is essentially a small startup business made up of various consultants who may or may not know each other and have varying experience,” she said. “This is a market that needed more structure.”
Rather than simply identifying the problem and moving on after her wedding, Kohnen decided to build something to address it. Four years later, AmorumiQ is approaching its broader launch.
What Couples and Wedding Professionals Can Use Now
Although the full AmorumiQ platform is still being prepared for a broader release, couples and wedding professionals can already try the company’s free wedding timeline tool. Users provide an email address to generate a standard timeline and can then add or edit individual moments.
The tool creates two types of links. A view-only version can be shared with family members or the wedding party, while an editable link can be shared with a partner or planner. No account is required to use the timeline.
Meanwhile, a small group of wedding professionals across several categories is testing the larger AmorumiQ platform. The testing includes venues, planners, caterers, florists, and other wedding professionals, with particular attention being paid to communication among vendors working on the same event.
Connecting the Professionals Behind One Wedding
Vendor-to-vendor coordination is central to Kohnen’s vision for AmorumiQ. Instead of limiting communication to individual exchanges between a couple and each vendor, the platform is being designed to help appropriate members of the wedding team coordinate within the same wedding.
That could mean, for example, a florist and caterer working the same event being able to communicate through the platform rather than operating entirely through separate channels. AmorumiQ is currently keeping its testing group intentionally limited while the infrastructure is developed and refined.
“We’re currently spending time making sure the infrastructure is genuinely solid before we open up more broadly, so we are building an interest list,” Kohnen said. The broader launch is planned for early 2027. “I’m excited to be able to offer this new platform as we head into 2027’s peak season,” she said.

That emphasis on professional collaboration also made Women’s Wedding Network a natural community for AmorumiQ to support. The Cake-Off isn’t a bridal show. It is a networking event that brings together professionals from different parts of the wedding industry for an afternoon of relationship building, lunch, tastings, and, of course, a little friendly competition among the participating bakers.
“AmorumiQ at its core is a coordination platform, built on the idea of better communication within the network of wedding pros, exactly the kind of community that will be present at this Cake-Off,” Kohnen said. “So it felt more than right to show up for this and support the network in return.”
For Kohnen, sponsoring the event is also an opportunity to hear from the people AmorumiQ is being created to serve. “I’m looking forward to meeting the vendors and planners doing this work every day,” she said.
There is another benefit to spending lunchtime at the Cake-Off. Kohnen added that she’s also “excited to try some delicious desserts, of course!”

The 2026 Brides & Weddings Cake-Off takes place Wednesday, September 9, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Sweeney Barn in Manassas. The Women’s Wedding Network event brings together wedding professionals from across the region for networking, lunch, baker tastings, prize drawings, and the annual Cake-Off competition. Attendees will also have the opportunity to cast their votes for the Attendees’ Choice award.
