Krista and Joao met at the airport when Krista was working with the Peace Corps in Joao’s native Cape Verde, an island nation off the coast of Africa. Joao’s family is from the volcanic island of Fogo, located in the Cape. His parent’s operate the local chapel where the two held their intimate wedding ceremony. Before the big event, Kirsty and Joao had a pre-wedding photo shoot on the nearby beach, where they not only got some stunning couple’s portraits, but also some alone time, strolling through the village before the festivities.
The ceremony itself was small, with just Krista and Joao’s closest friends and family in attendance. Krista was glowing in her vintage-inspired A-line gown with its lacy sheer back detailing and delicate cap sleeves. Her look was completed by a fingertip veil and a lush bouquet of colorful daisies, wildflowers and greenery. Joao was handsome in his navy blue suit and striped tie and he and Krista decided to have their post-ceremony portraits shot at the base of the Cha das Caldeiras volcano. The stark black background created by the layers of volcanic ash made for some truly stunning images.
The reception was an intimate dinner at home with the friends and loved ones who came from near and far to celebrate the love that Krista and Joao share. To close the evening, all of the guests went outside to release paper “wish” lanterns into the sky, symbolizing their hopes and wishes for Krista and Joao’s future and a happy heathy life for them both.
