Romantic Charleston, SC Elopement

Captured & submitted by Leigh Hayward Photography

These beautiful brides eloped in downtown Charleston, SC with one of the bride’s father officiating. It was such a perfect intimate way to get married. After a few family photos, the newlyweds and I explored the city taking photos at various locations.

Below are answers to a questionnaire from the brides:

The Happy Couple’s Names: Allyson and Jessi

Let’s start at the beginning. How did you two first meet? We met online! ( It was definitely fate.)

What makes your relationship unique? We love to go on new adventures and we are both obsessed with our rescue pups.

How did you know your partner was the one? When did you first know this in your relationship? (these may often be the same moment, but aren’t always) I knew Jessi was the one when I spilled red wine all over her on our second date and she made me feel like it was totally normal to be so clumsy. We laughed it off and joke about it to this day. She just knew I was always going to keep her on her toes. Jessi knew Ally was the one when her inner child began to come alive again. She felt free from everything that weighed her down daily with her career in law enforcement. She could be unapologetically herself and that was more than she could ever as for.

Share some details about the proposal and the bling. The ring is gorgeous and everything I’ve ever wanted. It is a rose gold, pear shaped, morganite. I’m not a diamond girl and Jessi hit it out of the park. We were dressed up like the characters from Disney Pixar’s movie UP, on Halloween. I was dressed up like Kevin( the bird) and Jessi was dressed up like Carl. When jessi brought up the idea that we should dress like the characters in that movie, she imagined her as Carl, and myself as Ellie. The two main characters who’s love story was the base of the movie. BUT no, I wanted to dress up like Kevin, the ridiculously goofy, colorful, personality filled bird. IT WAS PERFECT. Jessi recreated the adventure book from the movie and proposed to me in front of our closest friends on my favorite holiday.

Where was your first date? World of Beer! We love craft beer. Sadly, this location is shut down now.

What is your favorite date activity now? Dave and Busters!

Tell me about your wedding!

What is the inspiration behind your day? Are you planning on having a specific theme, style or color palette? Incorporating any cultural or religious traditions in any part of your day? We are having a very intimate “elopement” with my dad marrying us. Jessi’s mom will attend and it will be at the Battery. I was born in Charleston and it was the first vacation we ever took together.

What is the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day you look forward to? I am looking forward to her reaction when she sees me for the first time. Jessi says “Ditto”.

Is there anything else you would like to share with me about your vision for your celebration of love? We just want to embrace the beauty of this city that we love and we want our pictures to show that.
