John and I met while we both were students at CU Boulder. As part of our 20 year anniversary this past year, we decided to recreate that date. We walked Pearl Street (went to the coffee shop that is now closed), browsed the Boulder Book store, and stopped at the corner where I knew in my heart that we would be together for a long time. Lo and behold, here we are 20 years later finally getting hitched!
After it became legal, we debated if marriage was for us. At that point we had already been together a long time and were domestic partners – we honestly didn’t think much would change if we were to do it. But post-COVID, things were different. Our community is scattered across the country, and we wanted a reason to bring our loved ones together to celebrate – and what better reason than for a wedding! Funny enough, the proposal was in the car, stuck in traffic on I-70 (very romantic!). We already knew we were going to have a party for our 20 year and then I asked John, “Should we just make it our wedding?”
We have had a lot of fun making this process our own! And even though we initially thought nothing would change, we both have felt that nothing feels better than calling each other husband.
