Ketterman’s Kitchen: Where Pastry Meets Art, and Every Wedding Cake Tells a Story

By Rebecca Barnes, Publisher, Brides & Weddings

At Brides & Weddings, we’re always on the lookout for bakers who see wedding desserts not just as the end of a meal, but as the highlight of the celebration. That’s precisely what you’ll find at Ketterman’s Kitchen, where founder and pastry artist Dillyn Ketterman creates edible works of art that taste every bit as good as they look.

With over 14 years of experience in restaurants, hotels, and even the White House pastry kitchen, Dillyn’s journey began with a passion for the precision and beauty of pastry. “Pastry is not about feeding people—no one needs dessert,” she explains. “It’s about art.” That passion, paired with an eye for detail and a heart full of creative fire, is the force behind every cake, tart, and tiny cheesecake she makes.

A Family Legacy with a Sweet Twist

The name Ketterman’s may already be familiar to many in Loudoun County. Dillyn’s grandparents founded Ketterman’s Jewelers after meeting in a tuberculosis hospital in the 1950s, where her grandfather learned to repair watches while recovering. Her parents carried on the tradition, opening a beloved storefront in Leesburg. By honoring that family legacy, Ketterman’s Kitchen brings generations of business acumen and community love into a new, delicious form.

“I grew up around a dinner table where we talked about business. When it came time to name my bakery, using Ketterman’s just made sense,” Dillyn shares.

Custom Cakes That Reflect You

Dillyn is passionate about making each wedding cake reflect the couple’s personality, not just what’s trending. “I don’t want to copy and paste Pinterest,” she says. “I want to create something meaningful, something memorable. I’m at my best when I’m designing from the heart.”

Whether you’re dreaming of an intricate vintage-style heart cake with ornate piping or something playful—like a chocolate dog peeking out from under a tier—Dillyn is all in. She also encourages couples to explore unique flavors. Her signature cake? Vanilla with lemon curd and raspberry jam, or for something seasonal and bold, her fall favorite: pumpkin spice cake with espresso buttercream and chocolate ganache.

Tastings are available as pickup boxes of mini cakes, allowing couples to savor and discuss at home. And yes, gluten-free and vegan options are available, thoughtfully created to be just as delicious as their traditional counterparts.

More Than Cake: A Full Dessert Experience

Beyond cakes, Ketterman’s Kitchen also offers custom sugar cookies, dessert bars, and plated desserts for receptions. If you can dream it in sugar, she can bring it to life. She delivers and sets up on-site to ensure everything is picture-perfect—a commitment that stems from early lessons learned delivering wedding cakes through winding gravel roads (yes, that really happened!).

Over the years, Dillyn has partnered with top-tier venues and caterers including Clyde’s Willow Creek Farm, Kalero Vineyard, The Manor at Airmont, and Purple Onion Catering. Her relationships in the industry—and her attention to detail—make her a favorite among local planners and couples alike.

A Lasting Impression

What means the most to Dillyn? Seeing photos of her couples standing beside their cake. “My grandparents had a photo of their wedding cake in their living room for 60 years,” she says. “I want my couples to have that same moment—their own lasting memory, frozen in frosting.”

So, whether you’re planning an intimate vineyard wedding or a grand ballroom celebration, Ketterman’s Kitchen offers more than just desserts. It offers artistry, intention, and a piece of legacy—one sweet bite at a time.
