Katie and Dakota’s Bridal Party Twists Traditions

Katie and Dakota met in high school and dated all throughout college. When the two started planning their wedding they wanted to keep it traditional, but add in their own flair. They chose a classic country club setting for their venue, which offered a serene waterfront ceremony site. Then they selected a somewhat non-traditional bridal party. They both have close friends of the opposite sex, so in addition to bridesmaids, Katie had a guy friend in her entourage as a “bridesman” and Dakota added a “groomsmaid” to the lineup of his attendants. It was a fun twist on tradition!

After the ceremony by the water, Katie and Dakota moved their guests inside for dinner and dancing. Katie wore an antiqued lace mermaid cut gown with a short veil and Dakota looked dapper in his Vera Wang tuxedo. The colors of the day were white and pastels like the pale peach of the bridesmaids satin gowns and the bridesman’s matching tie. The groomsmen wore black tuxes with white ties and Dakota’s groomsmaid wore a flowing black gown. The floral arrangements were simply styled and contributed an atmosphere of soft elegance.

Katie and Dakota achieved a vintage feeling traditional wedding with their own modern twists. Some of their favorite details of the day were the cupcakes they served in addition to their more formal wedding cake and the live harpist whose music accompanied Katie’s walk down the aisle.
