Lauren and Jessie’s vision for their wedding was simple, but elegant. They’re both very no-nonsense, traditional people, so they wanted their day to reflect that. Their color palette of gold and navy blue was selected to represent their jobs and hobbies. Not only are they the colors of the school Lauren teaches at, but navy is the color of Jessie’s uniform for work. The two are also die hard Michigan football fans, so their decor scheme held all kinds of meaning for them!
The ceremony was outside overlooking the golf course, which also allowed them to get some gorgeous pictures surrounded by lush green lawns. The indoor reception space was decked out with navy and gold linens and accents and Lauren chose simple centerpieces of baby’s breath for their timeless, classic look as well as their affordability. In addition, their were wooden accent pieces like signage and table numbers throughout the space. All of which were handmade by Jessie in the couple’s garage, a sweet touch of DIY!
As an extra nod to tradition, Lauren sewed a blue heart made from one of her dad’s work shirts into her classic mermaid cut gown, right over her heart, and she wore her mother’s veil. “It had the perfect mix of bling and lace. The back came down with the prettiest buttons,” Lauren says of her gown and “Jessie wore a pin on the inside of his suit coat with a picture of his grandpa who passed away a couple of years ago.” Jessie looked dapper in his fitted blue suit and his burgundy tie matched his favorite shoes. We just love the groomsmen’s khaki suits and navy ties that paired perfectly with the color of the bridesmaids’ gowns, not only for their easy, elegant summertime look, but because they fit seamlessly into the color palette of the day. Great planning!
Still, Lauren’s favorite part of the wedding was the ceremony. She said “I thought I was going to be such a boss and own the aisle… I was not. I cried the whole way!” It’s ok Lauren, tears of joy are always appropriate!
