Sarah Ann and Kyle: Sleek, Modern, Whimsical

by Amy Serrago

Sarah Ann and Kyle are art lovers who met on a Saturday afternoon at the Brooklyn Museum. As soon as Kyle saw Sarah Ann in the crowd, he asked their mutual friend for an introduction. The pair exchanged info and were on their first date less than a week later! When he was ready to pop the question, Kyle took Sarah Ann back to the museum and before she knew it, he was down on one knee. As soon as she said “yes”, the couple’s families burst through the door. Not only had Kyle invited them to celebrate the big event, but he’d also arranged for a photographer to capture it all. For their wedding, Sarah Ann and Kyle traveled to North Carolina to be closer to family, but chose to keep their museum tradition alive. They said “I do” at the sleek and modern Mint Museum in uptown Charlotte where their ceremony took place beside a three story wall of windows. Light cascaded over them as they exchanged vows and included a unity braid ritual and the African American tradition of jumping the broom in their very personal ceremony that was officiated by Sarah Ann’s childhood friend, Leticia.

Sarah Ann wanted a dress that reflected her unique style and the modern, contemporary styling of the venue. She was absolutely stunning in the trumpet cut gown she found at Glamour Closet in NYC. Its art deco details and multi tiered skirting were perfect for the museum which houses outstanding collections of contemporary art. Sarah Ann says the dress was, “the star of the day”. She finished her look with sparkling accessories and a long veil and carried a sweet pink and white bouquet of roses and hydrangea. Kyle was dashing in his navy blue tux with its black lapel and sleek, slim fit. He tried suits from several designers before he found the perfect one at Paul Smith’s Studio Store.

At the reception, tables were set with a mix of navy blue and rose gold linens and centerpieces of white hydrangea were place in gold cubes. For a bit of added whimsy, blue uplighting gave the room a modern, romantic glow. Sarah Ann and Kyle’s sweetheart table featured a navy blue cloth in sparkling vintage-inspired lace and behind it a wall of windows gave guests a full view of the bright lights of the city of Charlotte. Sarah Ann enlisted college friends to DJ and Emcee. Not only do they have great taste in music, but they brought a personal aspect to the evening’s festivities. As favors, guests were given jars of Sarah’s mom’s homemade jam. Each held a label that read: spreading love. The couple chose two flavors, peach to honor Kyle’s home state of Georgia and Strawberry because it’s Sarah Ann’s favorite. As the sun set, the newlyweds got the party started with their first dance as husband and wife and their guests were quick to join them on the floor. After the traditional bouquet and garter toss, Sarah Ann and Kyle danced the night away with their friends and family. Congratulations you two!
