Melanie and Trevor met through mutual friends while they were in college. After graduation, they took a trip to Ireland together to relax and explore the world a bit before starting new jobs. They were on a day trip to a beautiful lake when Trevor popped the question. Melanie was totally surprised (although she had noticed that Trevor was a bit nervous for the first few days of their trip). She said yes and they got started on planning the wedding of their dreams. They took things slow, opting for a long engagement. Melanie says she loved really taking the time to plan every aspect of their big day. As a huge Disney fan, she had always dreamed of a fairytale wedding and The Van Dusen Mansion in Minneapolis was the perfect setting. Its stately interior and castle-like architecture are fit for a princess and her prince! Melanie and Trevor started their adventure with first looks before hopping in a Cinderella-style carriage to head to their outdoor ceremony where they were serenaded by live piano and violin.
Melanie looked absolutely regal in her flowing gown with its scalloped V neckline and dramatic train. She says she found her dress on her first shopping trip. She took a chance on a silhouette she’d never considered and fell in love. Her mom and sister agreed. They’d found “the one”. She finished her look with a sparkling tiara and vintage-inspired dangling earrings. Her bridesmaids looked sweet in pale lilac cocktail dresses and all of the ladies carried bouquets of white and pale purple florals featuring roses, hydrangea and eucalyptus accents. Trevor and his groomsmen were handsome in three-piece suits, Trevor in a white bow tie, his guys in pale lilac to match the ladies.
At the reception, tables were set with white linens and gold chargers and tall centerpieces were interspersed with short ones, adding dimension to the decor. Melanie’s grandma, who used to work in a flower shop, helped her pick the flowers and Melanie loved having that time to bond with her grandmother. Floating candles and flickering gold votives completed the tablescapes and a map of US hung on one side of the room with pins for guests to place on the map, showing how far they’d travelled to celebrate with the happy couple. As a treat for Melanie, her groom serenaded her with a special song, accompanying himself on the piano. After dinner, Melanie and Trevor served mini cupcakes alongside their wedding cake before they danced the night away in the courtyard where hundreds of twinkle lights sparkled above them. And they lived happily ever after. Congratulations Melanie and Trevor!
