Fairy Tale Inspired Historic Mansion Wedding

Shaylan and JT were married on the perfect late August day in Upstate, NY, surrounded by their closest friends and family. Their day began at the historic Sonnenberg Gardens and Mansion. The couple had gone on a date years before to explore the beautiful landmark and could not imagine at a better place for their bridal party portraits. The mansion gardens were the perfect timeless and romantic spot for the bride and her bridesmaids. The deep burgundy color palette Shaylan chose was an incredible contrast to the lush greenery and navy blue for the groomsmen. Shaylan’s bridal bouquet, along with her maid and matron of honor was locally grown and designed by Flowerwell NY. The bride purchased bulk flowers from the same designer and managed to craft all her bridesmaid’s bouquets, the boutonnieres, and centerpieces herself. The bride’s favorite movie growing up was Beauty and the Beast. She incorporated many elements from the classic fairy tale into her perfect wedding day.

The bride and groom chose to not see each other until the ceremony. All members of the 22 person bridal party did their part to ensure Shaylan and JT did not run into each other while we were photographing on the mansion grounds. The guys hung out in the old carriage house while the ladies primped in the bridal suite.

Their ceremony was located at the Plantation Party House in Spencerport, NY. Their guests gathered in the garden, the sun was low in the sky and the ceremony was perfectly shaded. The groom’s father officiated their ceremony and they had a very special reading from one of Shaylan’s (a pediatric nurse) patients. There was a roller coaster of emotions as we listened to their personal vows. Lots of laughter, happy tears and so much love.

Their reception was elegant with a long head table in the center of the room. Each table’s centerpiece included vintage books, antique teacups fill with local flowers and hand-painted wine bottles, all put together by the bride. Several close friends toasted the happy coupled finishing with the bride’s mother, who brought along a copy of Shaylan’s favorite storybook growing up, Beauty and the Beast. After the cake was cut, Shaylan and JT opened the dance floor with a perfectly choreographed first dance. There wasn’t a dry eye in the entire place.
