Kim and AJ’s Extra Special First Dance

by Amy Serrago

Kim and AJ’s relationship is one of a kind and so was their first dance. The day started with the excited couple exchanging vows beside a beautiful floral arch that was the perfect contrast to the industrial loft space they chose as their venue. A pink and blush color scheme provided a cheerful tone for the day’s celebration. After AJ kissed his bride and both enjoyed some fun mingling at the cocktail hour, the newlyweds kicked off the reception by sharing their first dance as husband and wife. Guests could tell that something special was happening. As the music rose, they heard a familiar voice. Then they noticed that Kim’s name was in the lyrics, along with “Apollo”, the name of Kim and AJ’s dog. It was just at that moment that Kim realized that AJ had written and recorded a song just for their first dance, just for her. She looked around the room to see all of her closest friends and family delicately dabbing at their tears of joy.

Kim was radiant in her trumpet cut gown with its lace bodice, illusion neckline and keyhole back. She finished her look with a long veil and a knockout pair of Betsy Johnson pumps, pale blush with sparkling rhinestone accents. Her bridesmaids were pretty in peachy blush convertible gowns and all of the ladies carried bouquets of white and blush peonies. AJ and his groomsmen were dapper in gray suits with blush bow ties and pocket squares. AJ added a vest to his look to stand out from the pack.

The reception tables were set with cream linens and gold chargers and the leafy green centerpieces were accented by vintage-inspired lanterns and gold votives for a romantic glow. Details like candelabras and a single rose inside a glass display gave a nod to one of the couple’s favorite movies from their childhood, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, and strung Edison lights hung high above the room. After Kim and AJ’s touching and original first dance, there were speeches to wish the couple well and a delicious dinner. But once the two had cut their cake with its “tale as old as time” topper, it was back onto the dance floor to party and celebrate this wonderful couple’s unique love. Congratulations Kim and AJ!
